Braces are the tried and true method to give you high-quality, consistent results. We offer a variety of options to fit your lifestyle: hidden, clear, or traditional.
Braces aren't just for children anymore either! While we have plenty of parents looking for braces for their child, we also see adults come in looking for their own work to be done.
Having braces no longer means bulky and noticeable. In fact, many of today's braces are made from either clear or natural tooth-colored materials to provide patients with an attractive, less noticeable alternative.
The amount of time spent in braces will vary depending on the individual patient because every smile responds differently to treatment. Treatment times can take anywhere between six and 30 months, but most standard treatments take about 22 months.
Braces do not often hurt though you may feel a small amount of discomfort for a couple of days as your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth get used to your new braces.
Playing an instrument or a contact sport may require some adjustment when you first get your braces, but wearing braces will not stop you from participating in any of your school activities. If you play a contact sport, it is recommended that you wear a mouthguard to protect your braces or appliance.
Don’t worry, you’ll be eating popcorn and snacking on potato chips again in no time! However, before you can start enjoying some of the treats you love, you will need to take special care to avoid any foods that could damage your new appliances.
Foods to avoid with braces:
- Chewy foods — bagels, licorice
- Crunchy foods — popcorn, chips, ice
- Sticky foods — caramel candies, chewing gum
- Hard foods — nuts, hard candies
- Foods you bite into — corn on the cob, apples, carrots
Foods you CAN eat with braces:
- Dairy — soft cheese, pudding, milk-based drinks
- Breads — soft tortillas, pancakes, muffins without nuts
- Grains — pasta, soft cooked rice
- Meats/poultry — cooked chicken, meatballs, lunch meats
- Seafood — tuna, salmon, crab cakes
- Vegetables — mashed potatoes, steamed spinach, beans
- Fruits — applesauce, bananas, fruit juice
- Treats — ice cream w/o nuts, milkshakes, Jell-O, soft cake
Clear aligners are the most comfortable and discreet option available. Not only are aligners invisible, but they're also removable for when you're eating or drinking.
Achieve your dream smile faster without brackets or wires. These clear aligners can be used to tackle orthodontic problems big and small, all while blending in flawlessly with your natural smile.
On your last visit to the dentist, you may have noticed that they also offer clear aligner treatment. However, it is highly recommended that you visit an orthodontist for Invisalign treatment rather than a dentist.
Orthodontists and dentists both attend the same levels of schooling for dental care; however, those on an orthodontic track attend a few additional years of schooling and training to specialize in orthodontics. This teaches them how to diagnose and treat a range of orthodontic conditions such as misalignments, bite issues, cleft palates, and so on. So, while all orthodontists may be dentists, not all dentists are orthodontists.
An orthodontist is specially trained to provide Invisalign, along with other treatment options. This means they are able to treat a range of issues, from minor to severe, that dentists may not be able to. They are also well-versed in the best methods and techniques for diagnosing and treating patients. They also tend to have more advanced technology and tools available to them that will make treatment more effective and accurate.
Invisalign aligners require minimal maintenance and are convenient to manage. We recommend using a gentle toothbrush and mild cleaner or hydrogen peroxide to clean your aligners once a day before reinserting them into your mouth. It is recommended to store the trays in their designated case when not in use to avoid misplacement, damage, or the spread of bacteria. For any questions regarding the maintenance of your aligners or in case of misplacement or damage, we encourage you to reach out to our office.
The average cost range for Invisalign clear aligners is typically between $3,000 and $7,000, covering the entire treatment process. The cost of your treatment will be determined by various factors, such as the complexity of your condition, as well as any insurance coverage. During the initial consultation, Dr. Ouellette will provide details regarding the costs and payment options associated with our Invisalign services in St. Augustine, FL.
Regular visits to your dentist are crucial during the Invisalign treatment process. It is recommended to schedule appointments every six months for dental check-ups to monitor the progress of your teeth and ensure your teeth and gums are healthy and free of decay. This will also assist our team in making any modifications necessary to improve the results of your Invisalign treatment.

Moved to FL with 3 kids in orthodontic treatment. Dr. O picked up right where they left off and we're very pleased. Staff is friendly and informative. I can even contact the office via text messaging regarding appointments!

We love St Johns Orthodontics and Dr Ouellette and his team! Professional and thorough, their approach in the initial consultation was the best of 3 orthodontist offices that we consulted with prior to choosing them to treat both of our sons.
